Paperclip chair
The paperclip chair exploits the natural spring in two materials, stainless steel and leather, to combine the simplicity of a deckchair with the elegance of a piece of classic domestic furniture.
The Paperclip Chair brings the outdoor comfort associated with deckchairs and hammocks into the house, by using slung fabric to hold the human form.
By bringing this concept indoors and into a more formal environment it allows the user to feel the same support whether dining, relaxing or working.
The idea for this chair came from wanting to create a comfortable seat which disposed of the need for the traditional layers of upholstery which have become synonymous with luxury inside our homes.

By using a tubular stainless steel frame and leather straps the Paperclip Chair exploits the inherent flexible properties of these materials to create comfort. Because the back of the chair is not attached to the seat, the backrest is able to flex, adjusting according to how much you lean backwards or forwards, while continuing to support the user. Another layer of comfort is provided by the 3mm leather straps that feature on the back and seat of the chair. The leather is strong enough to support the sitter whilst also being supple enough to mould around their form giving a personalised experience of comfort. This means that each person that sits in the same chair feels as though it has been designed just for them.
Because of the quality of the materials used and the construction of the chair, it sits in the high end range of furniture. The chair uses a simple concept which is familiar in an ordinary context, but by paring back the design and detail it achieves exactly what it needs to with the minimum carefully chosen elements, tubular steel and leather.
